What is positive reinforcement?
Positive reinforcement is a behavior management technique that encourages acceptable behavior through the use of rewards, also called reinforcers. The child receives a reward when they display the desired behaviors. When the child acts out or displays socially inappropriate behavior that behavior is simply ignored. Over time the child will learn what is acceptable behavior and what is not. It is my position that positive reinforcement is the best form of behavior management because it teaches children acceptable behavior instead of simply stopping negative behavior.
